My name is Hitekani. I love travel, good food and stories. I write a travel blog called Blacks Do Swim where I share these stories, adventures and travel tips. When I’m not adventuring – I write about travel, entrepreneurs and support small businesses.
There are many stereotypes about what black people and any type of adventurous activity. While travelling overseas, I would often find myself in conversations that we “oh, I didn’t know that black people [inserts, sometimes very weird, stereotype]. On one of those days, the question came as I was about to get on a yacht and while I didn’t answer the question. The name of my blog materialised – Blacks Do Swim. And Travel. And go on safaris, camping, caravanning… we’re out here. So, stop asking us stupid questions.
I caught the travel bug from my mom at a very young age. I always knew that I wanted to go everywhere. See and do everything. Which, as an introvert, means jumping outside my comfort zone every so often and experiencing different places and spaces. It also means meeting new people which, stresses me out a bit, always turns out awesome.
I hope the stories on Blacks Do Swim inspires you travel more. I hope you meet fantastic people along the way then go home and inspire other people around you to step out of their boxes and share their fun experiences. Then come back here and tell me all about it. I’d love to hear your stories too.
Follow more of my adventures on Instagram @BlacksDoSwim, Twitter and Facebook.
This is a really cool blog! Have just been thinking of trying mountain-biking this year I cant ride a bike yet though 🙂
Thanks for the feedback 🙂 It’s not too late learn-get on that bike. Especially to get access to some places that don’t allow cars.
