On our holiday in Dubai, we spent the morning at the Dubai Miracle Garden, a picturesque garden with more than 150 million natural flowers. It was my favourite place because flowers make me happy. As I was going through photos from our holiday in Dubai, I realised just how many photos of flowers and flower installations I had. So, after bombarding my poor sister with those photos, I thought I’d share the love with some of my favourite experiences at the garden, here.
Last year, I sat in the garden with my dad on a hot summer day. Even though we were sitting in the shade, the dry highveld heat that day was just too much for me. I suggested we move inside where it is cooler. “I can’t manage the heat,” I said. His eyes widened as he incredulously asked, “What do you mean you can’t manage the heat?” “We’re from Limpopo, “he added. I think of this interaction with fondness as beads of sweat turn into rivers thoroughly soaking through my very pretty yellow dress.
The Dubai Miracle Garden is outdoors, so the airconditioned temperature control was no help to me. I later found out that when we visited, the flowers had just been watered. So, the heat was compounded with the humidity from that water. It’s what I will tell the aunties over the holidays when they ask me about the photo my mom sent of me melting into a puddle but with a gorgeous backdrop. By the second night of our trip, I was finding it preferable to sit outside in the evenings. I’m always an outdoor baby.
Incredible Miracle Garden Landscaping
As soon as you enter the gates of Dubai Miracle Garden, you are enveloped in its grandeur. Two horses frame the pathway, gentle music plays in the background and all the visitors around you express awe. The landscaping is impeccable with different themed attractions.
Emirates A380
There is a life-size Emirates A380 inside the park in a field of sunflowers. This is one of the highlights of the garden. The aircraft is the biggest structure ever built at the Miracle Garden and is covered in 500,000 fresh flowers and living plants. Not to be outdone by other large structures in Dubai, it holds the Guinness World Record for the largest flower arrangement or structure.
A Fun Day in the Dubai Miracle Garden
There are so many structures and themes to admire. There is also a playful lightness throughout the garden, teddy bears, hearts, and a smurf village. We found small nooks to enjoy a beverage or ice cream, took loads of fun photos and just basked in the overall joy of the space that colourful flowers always bring. I’d go back here in a heartbeat. I’m sure there were brilliant flowers I didn’t get to meet.
When to Visit the Dubai Miracle Garden
The best time to visit Dubai is during the winter season. The temperature from October to March is still scorching but not unbearably hot. It’s between 18 and 35 degrees Celsius.
The Dubai Miracle Garden is open in the cooler months of the year. Usually from October to April when the flowers are in full bloom. We visited in the morning just after opening to avoid grounds and allow up to walk around before more heat set in. Our friends have also visited in the evening when it is cooler. In the evenings, the light amplifies the attractions in different ways, creating an equally fabulous experience.
