I’m celebrating the day when the world went from being one without me in it, to a more fabulous world with me in it. So I’ve compiled my own “What I know for sure” column.
© What I know for sure is that Josh Groban is great, Yoda is wise, squid meat is rubbery and I still remember how to swim.
© I know for sure that money isn’t everything but it is a thing. You shouldn’t be obsessed with it but you do need some.
© Black, purple, red and pink are consistently the best flavour in the sweet packet. Period.
© Always tell the truth and be prepared to hear it on occasion. Sometimes, it’s not pleasant. Follow it where it takes you. Sometimes, that place isn’t pleasant either.
© The greatest adventure is life itself. Just waking up in the morning is an adventure in itself. All you have to do is GET UP! Just the other day, in an attempt to avoid traffic, the taxi I was in ditched the road rules and proceeded to drive on the wrong side of the road.
Recent Adventures
– Taking a taxi to work in rush hour.
– Baking a cake with the ingredients you kinda remember from the recipe book ten years ago
– Riding a bicycle through Soweto with a rabid dog hot on your heels
© I know that we are all physically and mentally stronger than we know.
© On love, I know now that Garth Brooks was spot on when he sang: “I’m glad I didn’t know the way it all would end, the way it all would go…I could have missed the pain but I’d of had to missed the dance.” And boy what a dance it was. I can still hear the dance heels in my heart tap tapping away.
© If you love someone…TELL THEM!
© I know for sure for sure that when I’ve hurt one of my wings and I can no longer fly. All my angels, both literal and figurative, swoop down and create a solid, protective shield around me, warding off all the vultures. When I begin to heal, they carry me on their shoulders until I can fly on my own again.
© True friends are angles in disguise. Hold on to them.
© When that flickering petrol light comes on, it’s not a suggestion – It’s an order!
© And when in doubt…SMILE.
To my future self:
The adventure is wherever you are. Life’s as easy as A-B-C.
Be Assertive. Be Bold. Be Creative.
I won’t deny it future self, I’ve made some mistakes and I have the scars to show it. I have said yes when I should have said no; I’ve run towards when I should have run away; I’ve eaten things I had no business eating (yep, Eel) and I’ve said no when Lord knows I should have said yes.
But fear not future self, I get it now! I won’t be making those mistakes again. You can be sure, I learnt a thing or two, hopefully more.
